As we all know there's only one way to lose weight and be healthy & fit. And that's to eat a healthy, balanced diet and get regular exercise. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure that out, right? But there are ways to look slimmer, and today I'm going to share my secrets on how to dress slim.
The clothes you wear and how you wear them can make you look 10 pounds lighter in seconds! I am the furthest thing from a supermodel, and I, like many other women, struggle with weight. It's also harder as one gets to a certain age (late 40s), to maintain your weight, and you suddenly find that your body is going through changes that you are not prepared for and there seems to be little you can do about it. So for me, being able to 'dress slim' has been my saving grace, and trust me when I tell you that with these few tips it can help you too!
So listen up ladies, I'm sharing my dressing slim secrets with you today....
Wear a V-neck...you probably can't believe that something as simple as this could make such a difference, but it does. A V-neck lengthens your neck and shows off your collarbone. Try it and see the difference. This is also especially flattering on chesty women.
Go monochromatic...dressing in one color head to toe is the easiest slim trick in the book because it creates one long, lean line and doesn't break your body up into separate visual parts. It also makes you look taller. This tip is great for petite people.
Buy only what you can move in...should be pretty simple, right? But you'd be surprised how many people buy clothes that don't fit. I see it all the time at work, women who insist they are a certain size (when I know full well they're at least one size smaller!), and they stuff themselves into clothes that don't fit! All this does is cause bulges and rolls on even the slimmest woman! If you have to wiggle around in the dressing room to get it on, put it back on the rack!
Practice the art of camouflage...darker colors will minimize and lighter or shiny ones will highlight. It's that simple! So if you have a thicker waist, wear a brown or black belt. If you want to play down a large chest, avoid wearing a gold of silver blouse.
Choose flattering fabrics...if you're trying to de-emphasize a "problem area" wear a crisp fabric, not clingy materials that show everything you're trying to disguise. Conversely, when you want to show off an area of your body that you feel good about, wear the clingy materials. If you have killer legs but a muffin top, opt for fitted jeans with a crisp tucked-in white shirt as opposed to the stretchy wool sweater and baggy jeans.
Don't go baggy...I've said this a thousand times - big shapes make you look bigger. When will people get this? If you think you're doing yourself a favor by wearing a big, shapeless piece of clothing, think again. The rule of thumb is if you're wearing a looser top, wear a slim fit article of clothing on your bottom half. If you're wearing a fitted top, you can wear a looser piece on the bottom half.
Find a tailor...don't expect every article of clothing to be a perfect fit because it's just not possible. Find a tailor you love and trust to make your alterations. It's going to be one of the best investments you make. An ill-fitted suit can look sloppy and cheap. But with a few well tailored staples in your wardrobe, you'll be prepared for any event.
Go small with prints...remember this rule of thumb ladies. The smaller the print, the smaller you'll look. I am someone who loves wearing prints, especially the floral jeans that have been on trend the past couple of seasons, and if I can pull it off, anyone can!
Belt it...always draw attention to your waist. This is because it accentuates the smallest part of a woman. Putting a belt with just about anything will help give your body a slimmer profile - but remember not to overcinch. That's how muffin tops are born!
Pick the right size pockets...the ideal size for a super-sexy bum pocket is no smaller than your palm and no bigger than your hand. Stray outside of this and you're playing with fire. Also make sure that the bottom of your pocket never dips lower than your actual bum.
Go same on same...pair any color pant with the same color shoe for longer looking legs. This also works with nude shoes if you're wearing a dress. I've been doing this for years and it does work!
Invest in the right under-garments...I've always said that the correct underwear is your foundation. And it's true. Wearing the proper underwear can make or break your outfit. Make sure your bra is the right size and fit. The higher your boobs sit, the slimmer your waist look. Also there's nothing worse than droopy boobs ladies...please make sure your boobs are where they're supposed to be! Also, wear a 'smoothy' so that there's no visible panty line and it gives you just the right amount of support. I promise you, it will make the world of difference. There's so much to choose from out there available at many department stores, and now they are affordable and comfortable. No excuses!
So there you have it ladies, my secrets to dressing slim and looking the best you possibly can. Don't be afraid to try new or different things. Be honest with yourself about what areas of your body you want to disguise and what areas you want to highlight. None of us are perfect, it's just about knowing how to get it right!
