Try a Tunic this Fall...it flatters everyone!

Is it a top?  Is it a dress?  When you're not quite sure, it's a tunic, and I love a tunic!  Whether it's ultra mini or down to your calf, the shirt-over-pants styling is a dead giveaway.  Don't confuse these with the dress-over-pants things from several years ago - ditsy flower prints over baggy jeans is not what I mean!  Rather, thoughtful layering that's more tailored and chic; something that feels modern instead of sloppy.

When you're tunic shopping (and you should be!), think both comfortable and sexy ways to wear them. Opaque tights and OTK boots? A cropped tank on top, a pair of jeggings underneath?  The options are endless.  It almost goes without saying that picking a simple solid-colored tunic with a bit of lycra in it provides you with a blank canvas for all of your statement shoes, jackets, outerwear and baubles.  So why wouldn't you want to wear one, right?

You could take inspiration from the Olsens with their structured tunics;  Suno used relaxed tailoring and metallic threads to keep the look fresh;  Rag & Bone played with good-girl, bad-girl sex appeal.  All covered up, but ultra short with sheer hosiery underneath; Mulberry's version was beyond versatile: coat, jacket, dress?  Doesn't really matter, it could have been all three, depending on the styling.  Perfect for Fall.

Now check out how to wear this and make this your next stock-up basic for Fall 2013, you won't be sorry!

Moto Jackets...one of Fall's biggest hits!

One of this season's biggest hits is the moto jacket.  I personally love this trend and have been sporting them myself.  This trend is easy to do and can be mixed up for that cool, edgy vibe.

You can wear the moto jacket with jeans and a tee for a casual weekend look, or wear one with black pants and a dressier top for more of an evening look.  But I also like sporting one with a dress for a ladylike look with an edge.

Whether you choose the staple black leather look, one with hardwear like metal studs for the rock-chic look, a pastel leather one which also looks super cool, or a mixed textured one (see post on fabric-blocking trend for more on this), you cannot fail to look super good in this season's big hit!

Take a look at how to wear this trend and try it out.

Express your inner fashion sense...

Some say there is an art to dressing well.  That may be true.  Mastering what goes with what, knowing how to mix prints & textures, and eyeing exactly where the hemline should hit and how high the heel should be certainly take talent!  But let's face it ladies, most of us don't have the time, energy, or patience to elevate what we wear every day to an art form.  Our goal is to feel comfortable, confident, and chic in the clothes we put on.  We want dressing to be effortless - and we want to look effortlessly dressed!  Yes, there are the enviable lucky few who have a knack for looking oh-so-perfectly pulled together every time they step out the door, and then there are the rest of us, who have to try a little harder (and still those who don't bother at all!).  But with the proper tools, the right mind-set, and a little direction, we all can be well dressed all the time!

Express Your Inner Fashion Sense...learn to find the style star in you!

The trick to looking fashionable is not simply wearing the best pieces from the runways - although it's a start.  Real style is how you wear them, putting your own stamp on the outfit you choose to wear.  It's the little twists on the trends that make all the difference.  You want to create an air of individuality and separate yourself from the fashion pack.  Personal style should be your goal when it comes to dressing.

Here, tips to finding your own style:

  • Don't dress in a look straight from the runway or all in one trend.
  • Feel free to mix and match.
  • Don't be stuck on one style; experiment with new looks.  Or, find a signature look and be true to it.
  • If you like it, buy it and wear it - with confidence.
  • Have fun with trends, but don't be a slave to them.  Don't look like you're trying too hard!
  • Know that keeping it simple is often the best way to go.
  • Add your own touch to a look, whether it's a bow, belt or brooch.
  • Do the unexpected.  Don't always wear things in the traditional way.

And remember ladies, in the words of Yves Saint Laurent....."Fashion fades: Style is eternal"
