Hairstyles for Round Faces...

Over the next few day's I want to talk about something that I think is important to all women, and that is hairstyles.  I recently went through a drastic transition with my hair and I'm still struggling with the change.  Despite people telling me they really love my new look, I am still feeling a little unsure of whether or not this is a look that I want to keep long-term.  After many, many years of having long hair, it's hard to get used to being so exposed!  However, I did do my research before I went for the chop, and looked into what type of hairstyles match different face shapes, something that I believe is very important for all women to know.

There were a couple of things that were important to me in making the decision of what hairstyle to have - first & foremost I wanted something manageable, as I don't want to spend hours on my hair every day.  And also I wanted something that would look great curly or straight so that I could change the look when I wanted to.  With these things in mind I did my research and thought it would be a good idea to share this information with you so that the next time you decide to have a change in hairstyle, you will at least know what styles to look for to suit the shape of your face!  I will cover a different face shape each day with different looks to show you.  I am starting off with the round face...

All anyone wants to do is play down the bad, and highlight the good (the same theory that I apply to fashion).

Round faces - this is my face shape, and I chose a hairstyle that I believe would be flattering to my face shape (as well as discussed it with my stylist).  The secret to a great hairstyle when you have a round face is to deflect the roundness of your face.

Long hair is great on round faces because it lengthens the face.  The best cuts will fall a few inches below the chin and longer.  Long layers also look great with the shortest layer hitting at your earlobe or even lower.  Short layers make a hairstyle appear dated and also add body to hair, which will make a round face appear rounder.

Long, sideswept bangs create angles on a round face.  Long bangs that hit around the cheekbone will be particularly flattering.

Gentle waves deflect the roundness of the face, so if you have a natural wave in your hair (as I do), allow your hair to do its natural "thing".

And for those of you who are interested in what my new hairstyle looks like....here it is!!

Today there will be no fashion tips or reports....today is about being thankful for all the blessings we have in our lives and thinking of others both at home and away who are not as fortunate.

So as you sit down to enjoy your thanksgiving meal today with your family, friends and loved ones, take a moment to think about those who are not with us on this day of celebration.  Raise a toast to those who are not as fortunate as us, and be thankful for the little pleasures we have in our lives.

As I sit here I feel blessed to have a wonderful husband, my adoring pets, and friends who have become family to me.  However, I also think of my family and friends so far away, and those who are struggling right now and my thoughts are with them all on this day.

To all of you both near and far - happy thanksgiving, and take the time to appreciate what you have...

Winter Pastels...

Today.....winter pastels!  Gray days get a cheerful lining with this season's icy blues, mint greens, and baby pinks, featured on everything from casual coats to couture gowns.  Designers' inspirations arose from unexpected sources. The pastels in Massimiliano Giornetti's collection for Ferragamo came from the 'delicate hues of the light colored stone in the Louvre'.  Ease into the look by pairing a sherbet top with a shimmery skirt for your next holiday party, or refresh a smoky eye with a swath of frosted lilac.  Why should spring get to have all the fun?

Tomorrow is a big day for America.  It's a day when you decide who will be president of the United States of America!  You have the privilege of having the right to vote, of having the right to have a say on who gets to run the country for the next 4 years, and that is a right that many people throughout the world die fighting for.  So I say to you that if you have that right, exercise it!  Don't take for granted what people the world over fight so hard for, don't think that your vote doesn't count - because it does!

As a woman I urge ALL women to get out there and vote.  You owe it to the women who fought so hard to get the right to vote, you owe it to your fellow women, and you owe it to your children to show them what's important.

There are many reasons why women need to get out and vote tomorrow, and many reasons why they need to vote for President Obama again, so that he can continue to do the work he has started for the next four years.  If you're not sure why you should vote for Obama, continue reading and think about what matters for ALL women, and do what is right to help yourself, and your fellow women.

Here's the thing.  The Obama/Biden ticket isn't just about women's reproductive choices.  It's about the issues that are OUR issues.  They want us to make more money at our jobs.  They want to keep after-school programs for our kids.  They pass legislation to protect women against domestic violence.

They want to help single mothers, of which there are many.  They want to help get our kids into college.  They get what is important to us.

Women's issues ARE family issues.  No matter what your family looks like.  You really need to ask yourself - and I mean seriously ask yourself - do you want to give birth to your rapist's baby or do you want to plan your own family.  This isn't a moral issue.  It's a quality of life issue.

You may think this election is about abortion and gay marriage, but really it's about rich and poor.  And it's about women and freedom.  It is a class election - and if you are not rich or super rich and have no way to get there besides winning the lottery - then you should not be voting for Romney.  It is really that simple.

Please, make a difference and get out the vote, the right vote, tomorrow...
