One-shoulder dresses...

One-shoulder dresses are nothing new.  They've been around for years, but lately they've made somewhat of a comeback.  What makes these cocktail creations stand out is more than a mere diagonal neckline.  Now these dresses have straps boasting layered or tiered detailing as it's focal point.  It's a great way to bring the eye up to the face - no need to add the distraction of a necklace.

As we get older it's harder to find a  look that is the right balance of tasteful and sexy.  We still want to look sexy but not tacky, and it's very easy to cross over that line if we don't get it absolutely right. We can show a little skin, but it has to be done tastefully.  Showing a little cleavage or a shoulder is okay, but start wearing dresses that are micro short or with a plunge that goes down to your waist and well, you're definitely in the danger zone!

This look is a great way for the more 'mature' woman (like me!) to wear something that is still sexy but not inappropriate for the 40-something age group!  You'll notice that a lot of older celebs like Diane Sawyer and Katie Couric have sported this look before and they look great.  It's a way to show a little skin but not too much and still look subtly sexy!  Of course the younger celebs also rock this look as seen below with Cat Deeley in Tadoshi Shoji and Cameron Diaz in Fendi.  The detail on their one-shoulder dresses look amazing.  I love this look and think it's a great way to look age-appropriate for my age group while also looking sexy.

Take a look at how you too can rock this look...
