This week I want to talk about the different decades in fashion.  Each decade has offered something special and different, from the figure hugging, waist defining dresses of the 1950s, the bell-bottomed flares of the 1970s, to the big hair & big shoulder pads of the 1980s!

Today I'm going to focus on one of my favorite fashion decades....the 1960s!  Famous for the Mod fashions, Mary Quant, Twiggy, Vidal Sassoon hair-cuts, and Quadrophenia - how could you not love this decade!

Innovative, creative, bold and brash.  Sixties fashion belonged to London, England!  The Brits set the tone and the world followed, there's no denying that!  The 1960s ushered in an attitude of "anything goes" and reflected the shifting politics and social issues of the day.  "Do your own thing" applied to clothes as well.

The fashion revolution was youth driven and began in the streets.  The 'boutique' clothing store emerged in the 1960s as 'the happening' place to shop.  They were fun and hip and young people felt more comfortable shopping there. Famous places to shop in London were of course Carnaby Street and the King's Road. And not to be left out of the trend, Paraphernalia opened in 1965 on Madison Avenue in New York and was an instant smash.

Color played a big role in defining the sixties or 'mod' look.  Bright, bold colors were displayed in geometric patterns.  Mini skirts were everywhere, and girls everywhere were trying to emulate the look of Twiggy!  And let's not forget The Beatles....this was the decade of Beatlemania!!

Take a look back at the looks of the 60s...
