The 1970s....what comes to mind when you think of this decade?  I think of flared or bell-bottomed trousers, big collars, hot pants, kaftans, platform shoes, disco, Saturday Night Fever (love that movie!!), and so much more!!  I love this decade more for the music than the fashions...I would never have been able to pull off the hot pants!!  It was a decade for fun, and fashion was evolving and women at that time had more freedom to wear whatever they wanted.  Fashion was also spreading around the world and was culrurally spreading and bringing new fashion styles to the U.S.

The skirt lengths during this decade were two extremes.  Either micro-mini or maxi (no prizes for guessing which one I would have preferred!).  Cat suits (or jump suits as we refer to them now), were also very popular, especially the halter neck styles.  When lounging around at home, kaftans (or mumus) were a big trend!  This is a trend that originated from the hippy movement and was influenced by North African countries like Morocco & Tunisia.

Also popular were the trouser suits with the bell-bottomed or flared pants, and a popular color back then was green (any shade was okay!).  Farrah Fawcett from the popular series Charlies Angels sported the flared trousers and famous hair of the day, and many women tried to emulate her look!

A night out at the disco would involve lots of spandex and the infamous hot pants!!  The movie Saturday Night Fever showcased the fashions of this era perfectly (remember John Travolta in his famous white suit?). Shiny, clinging lycra stretch disco pants in really strong bright colors with stretch sequin bandeau tops were also making a statement in the discos.

Wanna take a trip down memory lane?  Take a look at these pics...
