You don't have to be Scottish or know how to do the Highland Fling in order to wear tartan (or plaid as it's known here in the States).  Tartan has been a fashionable statement for many years, and what is great about this design is it comes in many forms and colors!  Tartan can be an accessory or a bold statement piece. Personally I prefer a statement piece, but then you probably knew that didn't you?  Remember the infamous tartan Alexander McQueen dress that Sarah Jessica Parker wore a few years ago at a big fashion event?  She was ripped apart by all the 'fashion critics' for that dress....I loved it!  I loved that it was completely out there, and only someone like SJP could pull something like that off.  So don't be afraid to try this trend, go ahead and take a look at some of the following ways to wear it and give it a try...

This is SJP with the late designer in the dress that caused a rucus!!!

I'm loving award season this year and the fashions do not disappoint!  Last night was no exception at the SAG Awards with the celebs stepping out in their glamorous dresses and the men looking dapper in their tuxes!  Again, there was a slew of nude and pale blush/rose colors, some great others not so much!  Some of the stars really stepped it up, like Emma Stone in a stunning Alexander McQueen black dress which totally made up for her poor choice of dress at the Globes!  Rose Byrne was one of my favorites in her Elie Saab jumpsuit which had a real 70s vibe and looked great with her blunt bob hair cut. Sofia Vergara was her usual stunning self in a form fitting ruby Marchesa dress - but you need to change it up Sofia, you're getting a little predictable!  Viola Davis was another winner in Marchesa, & Michelle Williams was stunning in red Valentino!  Angelina Jolie was another one with a 70s vibe going on in her black Jenny Packham number, but I was a little disappointed after her stunner at the Globes. I loved Zoe Saldana in her Givenchy Haute Couture, very chic and current.  I also liked Jessica Chastain in her vivid blue Calvin Klein dress - the clean lines and simple silhouette were very flattering on her. Kyra Sedgwich wowed in Pucci - what a way for a mature woman to make an entrance!  I also loved Tilda Swinton in Lanvin - she always pushes the boundaries and I love that about her.

Some of my misses were......Lea Michelle in Versace - she always seems to be trying too hard and dresses too old for her age.  She is young and should be fresh and hip!  And that slit?  Really, if you need to have a bikini wax in order to wear a dress, it's not a good choice!  Just saying!  Also, Meryl Streep, why oh why can you never get it right?  You're one of the best actresses of your generation, but you really need to sack your stylist!  I love Vivienne Westwood, but this was a hot mess!  And Kristen Wiig in Balenciaga....what was she thinking by ruining that outfit with that ridiculous choker!  Take that away and it would have been okay(ish)....Shailene Woodley in L'Wren Scott?  Oh dear, that's all I can say about that one!

Anyway peeps, judge for yourself and let me know who you think were the hits and misses....

The four characters in the Sex & The City series certainly had their influence on fashions and trends from the late 90s till just a couple of years ago.  Never before has a television series had such an impact on women and fashion!  The evolving styles of Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte & Miranda were fun and exciting to watch, and ones that many women tried to emulate.  Carrie was definitely the main fashionista of the series with her ecclectic and sometimes very surprising styles!  Samantha was always colorful and sexy, the mature sex kitten personified! Charlotte was always stylish, often preppy looking, and the epitomy of Park Avenue chic.  And Miranda was edgy and at times very bold in her look.  These women all had a huge impact on the fashion trends that women looked toward, with most of us identifying with at least one of these 4 characters. Which one am I??? Well, I would have to say that I am a Samantha with an occasional Charlotte thrown in for good measure!  Which one of these fabulous ladies are you?  Take a look at their style and let me know whose style you most relate to....
