I think taking fashion risks is a great thing. Done right, trying something unorthodox can really pay off, and I love the idea of doing imaginative, creative things in the name of fashion! For years I've been wearing pants under dresses (it works great, particularly in the summer), wearing shirts under bustiers (one of my fave go-to things to wear!), and mixing prints, stripes and textures.
Yes, taking risks with fashion may not always pay off, but adding your own twist on something shows individuality and creativity, and a willingness to step 'outside the box'. I was therefore thrilled to bits when I saw that this season these unlikely combinations set a new standard for taking fashion risks and creating your own style guidelines, regardless of popular belief or opinion.
Take a look at some of these unorthodox pairings that offer a fresh perspective, and don't be afraid to try something new!
Socks and Sandals - this combo was once considered a fashion faux-pas, but socks and sandals have been all over the Spring runways. How times have changed!
Strapless Dresses over Long Sleeves (at Paris Fashion Week) - Maximize your seasonal wardrobe by layering long sleeves under strapless dresses for versatile dressing!
Birkenstocks & Dresses - Granola footwear makes its mark in fashion this Spring with Birkenstock gracing the runways of major designers, inspiring the ugly shoe craze that is flatforms and slides!
Contrasting Stripes - Horizontal stripes with vertical ones for a look that's less up-and-down and more of an optical illusion.
Slogans on Dresses (at Christian Dior) - We've seen them on sweaters and shirts, but this season saw formal dresses painted with splashy slogans for statement-making style.
Pants under Dresses (at Viktor & Rolf) - Spring looks get casually layered when pants and dresses come together to complete the perfect pair.
Crop Tops Over T-Shirts (at New York Fashion Week) - after seasons of this trend reigning supreme, the tried-and-tested crop top is reworked refreshingly over a full coverage T-Shirt.
Bermuda Shorts and Blazers (at Tracy Reese) - bringing the beach to the boardroom, Bermuda shorts are elevated with button-up blazers for the new corporate summer dress code!
