Looking fabulous in your 50s...

The 50s are apparently the new 30s, and women are looking better & more confident than ever in this decade.  Being in your 50s does not mean that you are officially 'old' or that you have to look frumpy, it means that you should celebrate your life and can look the best you've ever looked - seriously!  By the time women have reached their 50s they usually know who they are, are established in their career, and are usually super-confident.  So instead of dreading this decade and giving up, how about you embrace it and check out my tips on how to look fabulous in your 50s...

  • Dress up in classic colors.  Choose solids in lush but low-key shades; deep brown, navy, deep burgundy and black look great.  This however, does not mean boring.  Go for cuts with interesting and complex details like accordion pleats or a gathered waist.
  • Look for lady-like tops.  Billowing, blousy tops - like scarf-tie, ruffle front, or full sleeved styles - give a soft edge to more structured separates.  When a top has lots of volume however, the color or print should be muted, as should your bottoms.
  • Keep your skirt simple or luxe it up.  A long, lean cut is classic - and the perfect accompaniment to your flouncier tops.  For a slightly sexy, playful style, lace or ruffles is a fun alternative when paired with something basic.  But keep the hemline in check ladies and remember you don't want to look like 'mutton dressed as lamb'!
  • Start with a clean cut jacket.  A sleek blazer will go with everything and go anywhere.  Add sumptuous styles like a short fur (faux of course!) or embellished topper to your wardrobe for evenings out or just to glam it up for day.
Someone who proves that you can still look va-va-voom in your 50s is Kim Catrall.  This talented
actress, best known for her portrayal of vixen Samantha in the Sex & The City series, is in her mid-
50s and still looks fabulous!  She is not afraid to take risks, but pulls it off with class and panache.  She is on-trend without being a slave to fashion (which at this age would be a huge mistake!), and enjoys wearing color.  She can go from looking elegant and polished during the day to sexy and chic in the evening.  Well done Kim for showing us how it should be done!
