The Peplum Trend...

I think one of my favorite trends the last few seasons has been the peplum trend.  Not only is it flattering (particularly to those of us who wish to disguise a tummy!), but this trend is one you can wear year round.  And after several seasons of dominating the runway and fashion shops alike, there's really no way to ignore the peplum trend this season.

So with this in mind, here are a few different ways to rock this trend!

1.  With sleek trousers to work - try a peplum top with a pair of sleek trousers for fall.  Both wide-leg and slim cropped pants would work, so wear whatever you feel best flatters your shape.  I love the idea of a bright color combo like a cobalt blue top and mustard yellow pant (see pic below), but if your office is more conservative, try neutral trousers with a burgundy or indigo top - two hot colors for fall!

2.  Pair with denim for the weekend - try wearing a peplum blouse over denim and pointy heels for a fresh take on the tank/jeans/heels combo every other girl will be sporting on a night out. Be daring and try it with the printed denim pant that is a big trend right now. This outfit is just as effortless but will set you apart from the rest!

3.  Wear with a pencil skirt - Get the most bang for your buck by wearing the same peplum top with a fitted pencil skirt.  Play with different color and pattern combinations depending on what your plans are.  If you're heading in to work, opt for a skirt in the same, or similar color as your blouse.  Going out?  Try a zany print (bonus points if your top is also a fun print!).  For date night, go with a sexy, fitted mini skirt - but be sure you've got a good balance of bare arms and bare legs.  Don't give too much away!

4.  Pick up a skirt with a peplum - a slim knee-length skirt with a peplum attached is a slightly more daring way to rock the look.  The peplum is more obvious and statement-making on a pencil skirt than on a top, so if that's your thing, this is a good option for you.  Style it with a fitted sleeveless blouse or a plain white tee for summer, then wear it with a chunky sweater and booties in the fall.  Steer clear of full or poufy silhouettes, which can read a little 80s prom queen!

5.  Try an effortless sleek peplum dress - a figure flattering sheath dress is made even more chic with the addition of a peplum.  Wear it with a statement making belt and strappy heels for a trendy work outfit.

6.  Top it off with a peplum jacket - finally, try a statement-making jacket over pants, dresses, skirts, shorts, jumpsuits...you name it!  The curvy silhouette is just as flattering on a blazer as anything else, and be worn in just as many ways.
