How could I talk about style icons past and present without mentioning Audrey Hepburn? Known for her beauty, elegance, and grace she remains one of Hollywood's greatest style icons. Please read on to find out more about the amazing Audrey....
Actress and philanthropist Audrey Hepburn was born on May 4, 1929 in Brussels, Belgium. At age 22, she starred in the Broadway production of Gigi. Two years later, she starred in the film Roman Holiday (1953) with Gregory Peck. In 1961, she set new fashion standards as Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's. However my personal favorite film that she starred in was My Fair Lady (1964) with Rex Harrison. She was amazing as flower girl Eliza Doolittle, and the clothes she wore in some of those scenes were fantastic! Other movies that she starred in included Sabrina (1954), Funny Face (1957), and of course The Nun's Story (1959) which earned her an Academy Award nomination.
In her later years, acting took a back seat to her work on behalf of children. She became a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF in the late 1980s. Travelling the world, she tried to raise awareness about children in need. She won a special Academy Award for her humanitarian work in 1993, but she did not live long enough to receive it. Sadly she died on January 20, 1993 at her home in Switzerland, after a battle with colon cancer.
She will always remain a special style icon and humanitarian in the eyes of all who loved and admired her. Please enjoy a look back at Audrey Hepburns style and grace...
