Spring/Summer shorts are here whether we like it or not, and I have seen them everywhere.  This fashion staple will never go out of style, and the short comes in different lengths, styles and colors and can be worn casually during the day or dressy for an evening out on the town.  This is a trend that I tend to avoid now that I'm in my forties, as I don't think it's age appropriate nor do I have long lean legs which I believe should be a pre-requisite for this look!  However, when it's done right the short can look great.  I'll stick to wearing them in the fall/winter with black opaque tights and boots, as for me this is a much more flattering look.

Shorts should be short, but let's be honest ladies.....not too short!  If I can see your bum cheeks then your shorts are way too short!  Unless you're a model keep it modest!  Also, if it looks like the circulation in your legs have been cut off then your shorts are way too tight!  Pale legs?  Use some tanning lotion to give you a nice golden glow.  There are many different brands on the market that do a great job and look very natural.

I think the important thing to remember about shorts is that it's all about how you wear them.  Wear them at a nice length, and try to make sure that they're a loose fit as this is always more flattering and makes your legs look slimmer.  For a casual look you can get a great pair of denim shorts and wear them with a tank and cropped jacket or a flowy linen shirt.  Add a neon belt for a pop of color.  If you want to elongate your legs wear them with a pair of wedge sandals, preferably a nude color.

For the evening wear a tailored pair of shorts.  Just about an inch or two above the knee is appropriate, any shorter and it starts to look a little tacky!  Pair them with a sparkly tank in a bright color and a metallic sandal and you will look great!

There are an array of colors that you can get your shorts in now and all the colors of the season are everywhere so I'm sure you won't have trouble finding a fun color to wear.  New York & Company have a great range of colored shorts, as do Macy's.

Take a look at how to pull off this look this summer.....
