Last night saw the second big awards ceremony of the year with the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, and celebrities rocked the red carpet showcasing the best trends as seen on the Spring runways.
I loved seeing all the beautiful gowns, jewels, and glamorous actors from the big & small screen. I have to say some of the outfits were amazing, and some did not hit the mark. So here is my review of the fashions, both good and bad, from last night's SAG Awards!
Jennifer Lawrence was a winner on and off the red carpet, wearing a navy blue Christian Dior dress that some believed split as she was ascending the stairs to accept the award (oops!). Whether it did or not, she looked amazing!
The major trend of the night was black & white, showcased by designers like Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors & Alexander Wang for the Spring 2013 season. January Jones adopted this trend in Prabal Gurung, and looked amazing in this very modern, edge dress and hair. Michelle Dockery looked lovely in a vintage black Ralph Rucci gown with sheer side panels. Julianne Moore wore a black & white flowered Chanel gown which I have to say I was disappointed with. She always looks amazing, but this time the top of the dress looked ill-fitting. Julianna Marguiles also wore Ralph Rucci in a dress that was very retro. Claire Danes rocked a black & white trend in a one-sleeve black gown by Givenchy with white geometric detailing.
Some starlets opted for just black, like Anne Hathaway in her Giambattista Valli gown with sheer decolletage and sheer tulle gown revealing a short skirt underneath. She looked very chic and glam. Tina Fey dazzled in a black heart-shaped strapless gown by Oscar de la Renta. Another funny lady, Julie Bowen wore the black leather trend wearing a dress by Australian designer Johanna Johnson with cap sleeves. Mad Men's Elizabeth Moss channeled the black trend wearing a knee length Dolce & Gabanna dress. One of my favorites of the night was Jaime Alexander in a beautiful black geometric gown by Marc Bouwer with plunging neckline.
Navy was also popular on the red carpet as worn by Jennifer Lawrence, Amanda Seyfriend in ZacPosen and a beautiful Vivienne Westwood gown worn by Nicole Kidman.
On the opposite spectrum, some leading ladies looked angelic in white like Kerry Washington in a jeweled corset dress by Rodarte. I loved the top half of this dress, but was not too keen on the lace at the back of the dress. Sofia Vergara showed off her amazing curves in a white Donna Karan. I was a little disappointed with Naomi Watt's Marchesa gown - I think it was too pale for her coloring.
Some actresses opted for color like Jessica Chastain in a red Alexander McQueen dress. I was not a huge fan of this dress, I thought it was too bold for her skin and hair color. Sally Field looked age appropriate in a purple J. Mendel dress, and Lea Michele wore an electric pink Valentino gown. I was not a fan of her pink dress - it was just all too much and her hair should have been worn up. Freida Pinto also wore pink, but pulled it off in Roland Mouret. Marion Cotillard wore a white & blue Christian Dior dress and Jennifer Garner was in a gold sequined Oscar de la Renta strapless dress.
Other celebs worth mentioning are Helen Hunt, who shimmered in a metallic silver gown by Romona Keveza, and Nina Debrev who also wore pink and made it work in her Elli Saab dress.
My big miss of the night has to go to Rose Byrne in a Valentino gown that was just plain awful. I don't know what she, or her stylist, were thinking! And my other big miss goes to Sigourney Weaver in a black dress that was drab and unflattering!
