Hairstyles for Round Faces...

Over the next few day's I want to talk about something that I think is important to all women, and that is hairstyles.  I recently went through a drastic transition with my hair and I'm still struggling with the change.  Despite people telling me they really love my new look, I am still feeling a little unsure of whether or not this is a look that I want to keep long-term.  After many, many years of having long hair, it's hard to get used to being so exposed!  However, I did do my research before I went for the chop, and looked into what type of hairstyles match different face shapes, something that I believe is very important for all women to know.

There were a couple of things that were important to me in making the decision of what hairstyle to have - first & foremost I wanted something manageable, as I don't want to spend hours on my hair every day.  And also I wanted something that would look great curly or straight so that I could change the look when I wanted to.  With these things in mind I did my research and thought it would be a good idea to share this information with you so that the next time you decide to have a change in hairstyle, you will at least know what styles to look for to suit the shape of your face!  I will cover a different face shape each day with different looks to show you.  I am starting off with the round face...

All anyone wants to do is play down the bad, and highlight the good (the same theory that I apply to fashion).

Round faces - this is my face shape, and I chose a hairstyle that I believe would be flattering to my face shape (as well as discussed it with my stylist).  The secret to a great hairstyle when you have a round face is to deflect the roundness of your face.

Long hair is great on round faces because it lengthens the face.  The best cuts will fall a few inches below the chin and longer.  Long layers also look great with the shortest layer hitting at your earlobe or even lower.  Short layers make a hairstyle appear dated and also add body to hair, which will make a round face appear rounder.

Long, sideswept bangs create angles on a round face.  Long bangs that hit around the cheekbone will be particularly flattering.

Gentle waves deflect the roundness of the face, so if you have a natural wave in your hair (as I do), allow your hair to do its natural "thing".

And for those of you who are interested in what my new hairstyle looks like....here it is!!
