Try these trends for Fall...

Fall is just around the corner ladies, and there's always new and fresh things to try for my favorite season.  Don't be afraid to try new things.  The smallest thing, like adding an embellishment to your lapel (see below) can make a big difference to your outfit.  So, read on and get inspired to try some new looks this Fall!

1.  Embellish your lapel - this is something I always do!  I love adding a little something to a jacket lapel, whether it be a big flower (aka SJP in S&TC), or a great pin.  It can completely change the vibe of an outfit. Designers also went mad for menswear this season, so you can play up your work blazer with an accent on the lapel. A two-toned pocket square or a floral pin puts a feminine twist on the tailored trend.

2.  A pair of statement specs - don't call them nerdy!  A great pair of specs can look stylishly smart, especially with a red-painted pout!  Many celebs are sporting this look now, like Zoe Saldana among others!

3.  Stagger your sleeves - this genius styling move looks casually chic and will keep you cozy on those chilly days.  Put a turtleneck under a top, or let your textured sweater peek out from a three-quarter-sleeve coat.  Love the black and white contrast for this look!

4.  Leave your shirt half untucked - leaving your shirt out at the side or the back give you an edgy look that also says you're not trying too hard, and can also double up as a way to disguise your butt!

5.  Wear your jacket like a cape - it can look put together, like Gucci's look on the runway over a sheer blouse, or sweet and casual, like Alexa  Chung's men's blazer worn over a Christopher Kane dress. It's a nice mix of masculine and feminine pieces.

Pencil Skirts...a timeless classic!

I've always said that a pencil skirt is a must for every woman's wardrobe.  This classic is a piece that is timeless and chic, and never fails to flatter.  I have many pencil skirts and they are my go-to item when I want to look sleek and elegant!  What I love is that so much can be done with a pencil skirt.  You can get a solid color, a color-block look, peplum versions, various fabrics and textures, and now, the trend of extravagantly patterned, beaded, and adorned versions cannot and definitely should not, be overlooked!

Whether as a separate or as part of a dress, worn belted to emphasize the waist, or with a peplum belt for added drama, pencil skirts have never looked sharper.  The slim bottom is often valued for the way its plain, tailored lines complement an elaborate top.

Take a look at some of these latest looks in pencil skirts and how some well known celebrities have rocked this look...

Wedding Hats & Fascinators

Wedding season is t over yet ladies so today I want to talk about hats and fascinators for weddings.  It isn't only royalty who wear them you know!  I love wearing hats - it doesn't have to be for a wedding, I just love wearing them, and I think they can really finish off an outfit nicely.  I always wear either a hat or a fascinator to a wedding; in fact I tend to base my outfit around whatever headpiece I'm planning to wear!  I know it's still not a big tradition in America, but I do think this British tradition is slowly becoming more popular over here.  So with that said, today I want to offer some tips for choosing a hat or fascinator for a wedding!

Choosing a hat to suit your features is quite an art.  Whether you're a friend of the bride looking for a stunning wedding hat or fascinator or the mother of the bride, there is one out there for you!

  • "Percher" hats and half hats worn at a dramatic angle above the right eyebrow were by far the most popular hats at the Royal Wedding, with mother of the bride Carole Middleton wearing a perfect example.
  • Wide brimmed hats should be worn in bold colors with the wedding outfit, rather than matching.
  •  A black shift dress with a lime green big wedding hat is eye catching and sophisticated.
  • Cerise pink and purple wedding hats are very popular colors - why not pick an outfit in one shade and a hat in the other.
  • Hats can either match a color or provide a spectacular contrasting statement.  It's the finished look that's important.
  • Always try your hat on with the wedding outfit you're wearing.
  • Consider the hat in the context of your whole 'look' - and wear the same height shoes you're planning to wear.
  • Hiring is a good option to consider for designer style on a budget.
  • Concentrate on volume and body.
  • Hats flatten hair, so give your style plenty of bounce by blow-drying, curling and using hairspray.
  • Style shorter hair by bringing hair forwards so it comes below the hat at the front and sides (a good hat for short to mid length hair is the 'Mitzioni').
  • Unless you add a bit of drama to your hair, your hat can look as if it has just been placed with little thought.  A well-styled hair-do brings your hat to life and looks great when you eventually take your wedding hat off.
  • Round faces can get away with big-brimmed hats.
  • Choose a 'hatinator' if you have a small face or petite frame (it's a half hat with more structure than a fascinator).  Or a small 'percher' that's worn at an angle so your face can be seen clearly.
Now you have the know-how, all that's left is to choose your fabulous hat or fascinator!  Take a look at some of these to get inspired...
