I've written many times over the past few years about how to dress for your body type. But the reality is, it isn't always that easy, because we're not all shaped like a pear, or an apple or whatever fruit we're supposed to be! Our bodies vary, there's no one-shape-that-fits-most reality!
What if you could pick the perfect skirt based on physical traits you actually possess, like long legs, healthy hips or a fit figure that's more athletic than curvy?
Check out these skirts for the body type you actually have, not the shape you're supposed to be!
A full mid-section - we've all been there ladies, sometimes it's bloat, sometimes it's one too many beers, and sometimes it's just our body-type. A middle that softly protrudes (and is totally sexy and feminine btw), can stick out unflatteringly in some skirts. So if you'd like to eliminate the issue, go for a skirt with a draped front like this one from ASOS.
Also for the mid-section conscious, if you want to draw attention to your waist, go for a high waistband. If you'd rather not, try a low waisted style.
Petite legs - women with petite legs are under the impression they can't wear long skirts. Not true! Just keep it slim fit and always make sure the hem hits at your heels (this is key!), instead of dragging on the floor. A slit shows off your legs too, making this style perfect for petites.
Long legs - you get to wear those long flowing skirts. An M-slit maxi like this is gong to be gorgeous on you this summer, and you'll show off your gams in a classy way!
You'll also get to rock the midi trend and embrace ladylike dressing!
Healthy hips - you're shapely in the hip area, and you know that skintight skirts can be too sexy for day. Try A-line skirts for the office. Keep them knee length to elongate your body.
Try chambray for the weekend...
Athletic - while the rest of us try to balance out our shapes with the shape of our skirts, athletic ladies are pretty balanced as is. Your're ready for serious bodycon skirts because you've got nothing to hide!
You can also rock all-over sequins, extra fabric or embellishments....go for it!
Plus - plus size women look amazing in pencil skirts, and depending on how you style it, the same one can be worn to work and for cocktails later on. Be sure to let it skim your body rather than be skin tight.
For a more casual look, go with breathable fabrics that move when you do, keeping it simple and body-skimming.
