Watermelon is the color of the moment...

Watermelon....no, not the fruit that is delicious to eat, but the color, is this seasons sweetest shade!  This pretty, punchy hue - a pinkish red with a touch of bright orange, is the color to be seen in this season.

Why I love it - I think Peter Som, who used watermelon in his collection, summed it up best: "it has the graphic impact of a lipstick red, but it's just a bit more feminine".

How to wear it - look for a structured silhouette, like the delightful tulip dress by Acne to emphasizethe color's strength.  Or for a little zing, wear a separate - either a blouse, a sweater, or sandals

Not sure about wearing too much of this color?  That's fine, just add a pop of watermelon with a sandal, belt or purse.  Or, adjust your makeup!  A melon mouth will look divine with a shiny gloss.  Choose a gloss that's a shade lighter than the dress rather than the same color - you don't want to overdo it!

Watermelon also plays well with these colors.....white, khaki, tangerine, & cobalt blue.  Don't be afraid to experiment with any of these colors to put a fabulous look together.

Here's some looks in watermelon....get inspired and give this color a try this season!

Golden Globe Fashion Review 2014

Last night saw the start of award season with the Golden Globe awards, and I was waiting in anticipation to see some great fashions.  It truly didn't disappoint!  In previous years I've been disappointed by some of the predictable fashions and color palettes, but this year I'm happy to say there were a lot more hits than there were misses.

My biggest hits were Cate Blanchett in a stunning black lace Armani dress with low back.  She always gets it right and is one of my favorite fashionistas!  Also rocking it on the red carpet was a lady in red who just wowed in Ralph Lauren, Lapito Nyong'O, star of 12 Years a Slave.  She looked gorgeous and is someone to watch!  Another lady in red was the lovely Emma Watson who wore a jumpsuit!  She looked modern and edgy in this look, way to go Emma!  Jennifer Lawrence looked fantastic in a white with black detail Dior dress. It was modern and age appropriate for this young starlet!  There was some controversy over Julia Roberts black and white Dolce & Gabanna dress (worn with a white shirt) - I loved this look, and good for her for staying true to who she is!  Zoe Saldana looked cool in a custom made Prabal Garang!  Helen Mirren looked classy as always and age appropriate, Michelle Dockery looked elegant and chic too, and Kate Beckinsale was stunning as always (let's hear it for three of my favorite Brits!).

Color blocking was a huge trend last night (and one that I love too) and I loved Amy Adams color block dress and Sandra Bullock's version too.  Julia Bowen surprised me in a great CB dress that made her look super-glam!

There's always a lot of black at these award shows, some of them what I call 'good' black and some I call 'boring' black.  The good black looks last night included Julianna Margulies, Uma Thurman, & Camilla Alves. The boring black included Jessica Chastain & Sofia Vergara.  I love Sofia but she's getting way too predictable, though I give her a thumbs up for adding a pop of color with the blue collar necklace!

My misses?  Quite a few I'm afraid!  Drew Barrymore looked hideous in Monique Lhulier (yes I know she's pregnant, but that's no excuse!).  Melissa McCarthy?  Sorry, she was a hot mess - again!  Reese Witherspoon was boring in a pale blue Calvin Klein sheath dress.  Taylor Swift in black & red Carolina Herrera?  Taylor, you're still in your 20s, it was way too old for you!  One of my big disappointments of the night was Kerry Washington in Balenciaga.  I always have high expectations of her as she's become quite the fashionistas, but she missed the mark for me in this very blah, plain look.  Lena Dunham, what can I say? Really?  She looked hideous and uncomfortable in a yellow Zac Posen dress that did nothing for her skin tone!  My biggest miss of the night goes to Paula Patten is a white dress with a ridiculous oversized ruffle down one side!

Who were your favorites last night, and whose dress did you hate?  Please share your comments with me, I'd love to hear!

So get comfy ladies, and enjoy the fashion pics from last nights GG!

Lupita Nyong'o earns her fashion buzz in scarlet Ralph Lauren off-shoulder gown with cape and simple diamond studs.

Julia Roberts reinvents the shirtdress in Dolce & Gabbana.

Cate Blanchett exudes majesty in a black high-neck Armani that flips to a surprisingly sexy back.

Zoe Saldana wears custom-made Prabal Gurung.

Amy Adams does a "Hustle" look - a deep plunge front gown. We preferred her hair in the movie, but loved her shout-out to her daughter: "Thank you for teaching me to accept joy and forget fear."

We want to be Helen Mirren when we grow up. She wore a Jenny Packham bespoke jade green tulle and chiffon gown with orchid embellishment.

Kate Beckinsale shines ... a bit too much for some. "I want to blot Kate Beckinsale's face," Tweeted one viewer.

Julianna Margulies wears black Andrew Gn, with a voluminous skirt taming the plunging front.

Two-tone dresses were everywhere; Sandra Bullock upped the ante to three in this Prabal Gurung gown.

Many wore scarlet red, but Emma Watson wears the pants with hers.

Sofia Vergara wears black Zac Posen whose folds could conceal multitudes.

Jennifer Lawrence reliably wears Dior, and while this tissuey gown wasn't the best of the bunch, she exudes new self-assurance just the same.

Drew Barrymore's baby bump blooms in Monique Lhuillier.

Expectant in more ways than one: Kerry Washington, predicted to win for "Scandal," wears a dove gray Balenciaga gown, a refreshing departure from the typical strapless columns of great-with-child stars.

Hair slicked back in white and black, Hayden Panettiere wears Tom Ford.

Michelle Dockery is the toast of the red carpet in a champagne Oscar de la Renta gown with a mullet hem.

Here are my two best dressed of the night....Lupita & Cate!  Fabulous!
